Jim Whiting

Jim Whiting - Children's Books, Sports
With more than 170 published nonfiction works for young readers, Jim Whiting is the island’s most prolific author (and almost certainly the entire state). He is a member of INK (Interesting Nonfiction for Kids), an invitation-only group of award-winning kids authors that spans the United States. Jim is also an accomplished freelance editor, with more than 300 titles to his credit and a growing client list that ranges from rhyming picture books to dystopian YA novels.  Before turning his talents to writing for kids, Jim wrote light verse, published Northwest Runner magazine for 17 years, served as sports editor for the Bainbridge Review, developed hundreds of event and venue descriptions for AOL, contributed hundreds of freelance articles for a variety of publications, penned advertising copy for an online retailer, and journeyed to Antarctica to act as official photographer for the Antarctica Marathon. No wonder Amazon calls him "a remarkably versatile and accomplished journalist, writer, editor, and photographer”! And for good measure, Jim touched the lives of thousands of island children and their parents as the founder of the popular Summer All-Comers Track Meets and meet director for 20 years.
