Chris L. Demarest - Children's Books
Award-winning
writer, illustrator, and artist Chris Demarest has been writing and
illustrating children’s books for three decades. He is official artist of
the U.S. Coast Guard and has traveled as far as the Persian Gulf to document
their work. In 2011 he became artist-in-residence at 'The Women in
Military Service to America Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery', creating a
tribute on canvas to the World War II generation. Demarest first visited
Bainbridge Island in 2016 as part of a national tour that allowed library
patrons to watch him work on his World War II inspired paintings. It was
during this visit that he fell in love with the area and decided to live here.
Demarest is actively involved in his new community. Not long ago he entertained
Bainbridge firefighters at their annual pancake breakfast with his popular
Firefighters A to Z (NY Times Best Book, 2000). Other
children favorites among his books are
