Eileen Black and Rosemary Shaw - Cookbook, Local Interest
In 2008 Eileen Black and Rosemary Shaw decided to collaborate on a fund-raising project for the Kitsap Humane Society. It is fortunate for both four- and two-legged islanders that they did. Their idea of publishing a compilation of island recipes resulted in Flavors of Bainbridge. The book treats readers to mouthwatering recipes like Chilly Hilly Cioppino, Fay Bainbridge BBQ Fish, and Port Madison Berry Terrine. Each meal includes at least one ingredient that was grown or produced on Bainbridge. Also, each recipe is accompanied by inspirational photos that show off the island's gardens, farms, beaches, forests and, of course, island animals. In an interview with the Bainbridge Island Review Shaw says of the book: "It’s a cookbook, but we saw it more as a lifestyle, and an outreach to the community." Black and Shaw certainly have accomplished their goal.
