Kirsten Blythe Painter

Kirsten Blythe Painter - Comparative Literature/Poetry
Kirsten Blythe Painter is the author of Flint on a Bright Stone (2006), an exploration of American, German, and Russian modernist poets - Rainer Maria Rilke, Nikolai Gumilev, Ezra Pound, Anna Akhmatova, Osip Mandelstam, Hilda Doolittle, William Carlos Williams, and T.S. Eliot among them. Michael Wachtel of Princeton University says: "The most striking contribution of this book is its breadth... Painter provides an excellent overview, demonstrating points of contact among poets largely unknown to each other. She is also a superb close reader who writes lucidly and does not get lost in theoretical speculations." Fellow author Anne Lamott describes the book as "at once illuminating and elegant, clear and captivating."
