As the light continues to increase in our NW days, our February artist, Dinah Satterwhite offers her NW views through photography and her series "Into the Light". She will host an opening reception Feb.6, 5-7PM for First Friday Art Walk in the library meeting room.
Here is Dinah's statement:
"As a fine art photographer, I feel that a great photo has to start with just one thing: the ability to stop me in my tracks. To catch my breath and hold me timeless in its grasp. To be interesting, even from a distance. To tell a story. I strive to create great photos that express my passion for life. I like them to stand out in a crowd, and share a special light, emotion, color, detail, space, texture, or composition. And yes, each one tells a story. Living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, I love to capture vivid color photos and print them on canvas and metal, so they pick up the sharp details and abundant colors found in nature. My series "Into the Light" features abstract and somewhat surreal images where I have painted with my camera to capture light and motion. These can look like acrylic paintings, as they convey a special balance, energy, and beauty that I hope takes your breath away. In recent years, I started shooting images with a "crystal ball" as the focal point. The glass inverts and condenses the scene behind it, bringing the whole world inside this small glass ball. I focus on the center of the scene inside the ball but love to set the whole scene with a contrasting bed of colorful rocks, or the water's edge, or a cobblestone street, or another foundation that complements the glass ball and world within."

You can view this exhibit all of February during regular library hours (unless a meeting happening). A portion of sales is donated to Bainbridge Public Library. As always, thank you for supporting your Bainbridge Public Library and local artists.
