Katy Warner

Katy Warner- Local History
Katherine Welfare Warner's family has lived on Bainbridge ever since her grandfather, Captain Alfred E. Welfare, landed on the island in 1858. As a child, the legends of the island and stories about its people were told to Warner by her father and grandmother. In 1968, Warner decided to publish a collection of these stories, along with historic photographs, as A History of BainbridgeIsland. The booklet went through six printings, the latest one being an updated edition from 1992. According to Katy Warner's wishes, proceeds from the sale of the booklet go to the Friends of the Bainbridge Public Library. She writes in the foreword of her book "I have used and enjoyed the library since they day it opened in 1962. It seemed a good time for me to return something of myself to this community which has been so good to me and my family over the years." Katy Warner passed away in 2002 at the age of 84.
