More than a decade ago, long-time island resident Ron Williamson walked into the local Parks & Rec District office to ask if there were any interest in a walking program he could offer. Little did anyone guess at the time how much interest Williamson's walks generated! They soon became so popular that a lottery system had to be instituted to ration access. After Williamson's passing a few years ago, some of his fans put together several of the routes he used to take them on. The spiral-bound booklet Discovering Bainbridge - Ron Williamson's Four-Mile Walks (2012) maps these walks and includes helpful comments that range from parking and trail difficulty, to historical information. Discovering Bainbridge is available for sale at Eagle Harbor Bookstore and can also be checked out at the library.
